Social Media in Elections

King's College London has found out in a recent study, that 33% of young adults (18-24) believe that social media influences their opinion-making. Therefore, it is no wonder that the UK parties are using social media like never before in the current election.

Every major party is extremely active on facebook, twitter, youtube and many more to inform the voters about what the individual party stands for (and how sh... horrible the other party is). Videos, images and short messages are the favorite means by these parties. The graph below shows for example how many facebook fans each party has.

Parties, as well as companies, rely heavily on how much buzz they create among the voters, and the trend of social media is a way to especially attract young people.

Share in the comments section below which post by political parties you thought were the best :)

Using social media for product launches

Ten detailed tactics how social media can be used to launch new7renewed products

As a brand you cannot neglect the importance of social media, since it is one of the greatest (and cheapest) assets you can use to promote your product. Social media gives you the possibility to interact closely with your customers, and allows for immediate reaction in case the comments of the customers are negative.

However, it isn't easy to use social media, especially when launching. A lot can go wrong, or just have no effect at all, which makes the time and work invested into it a waste. Look through these ten tips and tactics to see which strategies prove to be the most successful.

Food for thought: "Engage, Educate, Excite, Evangelize"

Social media is (in principle) and incredibly easy and accessible tool where companies can reach, communicate and interact with consumers... Yet, with no doubt, there are some key tools to success.

I would like to share with you this article (link below) from Forbes which shares;

" The four keys to social media"

1. Engage
2. Educate
3. Excite
4. Evangelize

I find these spot-on and very relevant, for all kinds of businesses. Of course there are other elements which we must consider and on which is much debated on is the right "dose"of information which is shared, as we have all surely "un-followed" pages which just kept posting to a point of irrelevancy.

Hope that you enjoy the article and that you can learn from it! Share your thoughts, opinions and experiences below.

EVERYONE IS THE MEDIA

Recently I came across a very interesting article abut the new age of journalism, unfortunately the article was really long therefore I decided to write a short summary for you guys. Have a look at the key takeaways of this very enriching article.

KEY TAKEAWAY: This new age of journalism presents quite an opportunity. The huge rise in the number of reporters means that the focus in the world of new media is shifting towards making sure that sources are credible. We saw a big example of this in early March, when Google announced that its research team was experimenting with methods of ranking websites by how factually accurate they are. Marketers who can quickly provide accurate information to the right group of people on the right channels stand to find high levels of success, thanks to the mass-reporting revolution in journalism.

5 Types of Social Media Strategies

Can you think of other ones? Post them in the comments below :)

Line between respect and freedom of speach

You may have heard about the shooting which happened in Istanbul, Turkey a couple of days ago concerning supposedly left-extremists taking a prosecutor hostage. People uploaded a lot of images of the whole scenario, for example also of the prosecutor being taken hostage with a gun pointed to his head.

The Turkish Government then blocked social media sites such as Twitter where these images started spreading. We all know that Turkey has a... special stance towards social media and that they are not really a big fan of it. They said that the pictures were "anti-government propaganda". And this is true. But should something be banned because it is anti-government? Isn't that freedom of speach?

A seemingly more reasonable comment is that "the wife and children are deeply upset". And honestly, who wouldn't be upset to see pictures in which a family member has a gun pointed to their head going viral? So where is the line between respecting the family and freedom of speach? Feel free to post your thoughts in the comments section below :)

The blonde salad is fashion's most recognized blog. Yet who thought that fashion blogging would lead Chiara Ferragni to meet.... Harvard?!

To me, this really shows how blogs are becoming serious business today... What do you think? Are they still just a hobby or could they move on to becoming a serious business platform?

Bypassing bans

The wave of social media cannot be easily stopped, even by governments. So everyone should use it to the best of their abilities to create value for the masses

After the long talks in our place of origin, Lausanne, Switzerland, between the Big 5 + 1 and Iran concerning Iran's nuclear program, a result has finally been reached after 25 years. This result is tremendous news for Iranians, since the international sanctions have crippled the country's economy and with that its people as well. So it's no surprise that the people were celebrating throughout the night.

A lot of them used social media sites, especially twitter, to celebrate together, even though twitter, as well as numerous other social media platforms are banned. The two pictures above are from two twitter users (@NegarMortazavi and @RabiiRamin respectively). To see more, feel free to visit this article by The Guardian.

An important lesson for everybody here is that you cannot stop the masses by restrictions or bans. Once momentum has been gathered, a trickle turns into a wave.

KLM Social media

On a recent flight from Amsterdam to Lima, I was amazed by the companies use of social media. As soon as I learnt about it, I knew I had to share it on our blog!

They use their social media platforms not only to promote their page, but also as a way of communication, 24/7 with their customers.

How awesome and creative! It gives a complete freshness to the usual, annoying customer service.

Today, companies really need to make themselves aware of what the customer wants, and especially... How!

Being able to contact KLM via your social media of choice is such a comfortable alternative to clients, and an example for innovative business ideas.
